Summer Around Pinehurst - 2011

Summer is starting to tease us around these parts.
I can't wait to break out the light and airy summer decor.

Here are a few photos from Pinehurst 2011
when the sun was coming out.

Ashley's Chase Sticks, snake plant and primitive comb on mantel

Another snake plant, rattan ball and planter,
photos and natural finds (coral and rock)

Another snake plant; thinking man tealight holder,
carved wood love keeper woman.
Sadly, the mini palm in the yellow planter didn't make it past Christmas, 2011.

My beloved apothecary lamp, free printable, wooden airplane.
Cut glass star taper holders and a mini cloche and mini clay pot. Books, of course.

My absolute fave throw.

A zinc pot on my side table with a stack of books,
a ceramic urn and a wood finial.
All up against a wall of Ansel Adams calendar prints.

Can't wait to get some sun,
break out the summer decor
and show you what we have going on this year.

Deep Spring Cleaning Secret Weapon

Whoa! Two posts in one day!
The world is ending.

clearly

This post is sponsored by Pine-Sol® Clean & Disinfect with Pine-Sol®: The Powerful Scent of Clean." I was compensated for this post as a member of Clever Girls Collective, but the content is all my own.

So.
We all KNOW that the only thing
I hate worse
than waking up early in the morning
to drive an hour each way to work,
is getting up
on any day
with the notion on my mind
that I NEED to clean something.
Now.
Before it gets way too far out of control.

I admit it.
Once,
I had help.
Those were the best 17 weeks of my life.
Not having to worry that things
were getting too far gone
because someone else would clean it up
no longer than 14 days later.

Don't you judge me.

You know what I missed when my cleaning lady came?
Sure.
The house looked clean.
And it didn't smell like anything.
And that was the problem.

When I was growing up,
THIS was the best smell ever

Original Scent Pine Sol meant that my mama was cleaning.
At the time,
I didn't appreciate having to get up on Saturday mornings
to clean my room.

But man, when I open a fresh bottle of Pine Sol,
I flash back to some of the best years of my life.

My mother - she's awesome like that.
She STILL cleans like it is no one's business.
But that is not the reason why I want her to move in with me.
Definitely not to clean up after me.
I'm a grown woman after all.

However, if she cleaned her own bathroom here with Pine Sol
and the smell wafted up the stairs...

Heaven.

Anyhow.
This weekend,
I got it in me,
that I would clean something.

Those somethings were my downstairs living room
(eeew...puppy)
and my master bathroom
(ewww...just, ewwww).

So I got dressed

And I grabbed a spray bottle.
My secret cleaning weapon for the bathroom?

I diluted some Pine Sol in my spray bottle
and went to TOWN in the bathtub
yes, the same tub that we had
washed a certain muddy puppy in
and promptly left the mud to dry on.

I'm far too much of a lady to show you photos of that
(ashamed)
but trust...that Pine Sol not only got my tub
from brown to white
(no doubt on that one)
but I went from Grumpy Dumpy Puppy Mommy pissed that she had to clean
to Super Sentimental Reminiscent Memory Lane Walker
soon as that Original Scent Pine Sol hit my nostrils.

By the time I got downstairs to steam clean the carpet,
I was so ready to clean, but only had managed to cart down
the Dyson and the spray bottle.

Nothing lifted my mood better than being able to clean
EVERYTHING with that spray bottle.
From the rained on window sills
to the bar counter tops
to the kicked and played on grime on my walls.

I was shocked, awed and happy as a clam
that I had found a new deep spring cleaning secret weapon.

Who knows.
I might just like cleaning after all!
Okay...that's a bit extreme.

Are you a little extreme when it comes to cleaning?

Bloom Into Spring Exchange w/ OneHouse|OneCouple

Want to do something fun with bloggie people offline?

Then run (no really, you only have until Monday the 19th so RUN)
to OneHouse|OneCouple and sign up for the Bloom into Spring Exchange.

Because:
A. Who doesn't like giving perfect strangers
(well, stranger singular in this case - you only get one partner)
your IRL mailing address?

B. Who doesn't like getting actual mail in the mail?

C. Who doesn't like shopping - especially for others?

D. Why the heck not?!?

Maybe we'll get linked up as spring buddies.
And I must say...someone (maybe me) is getting ready to open up an Etsy shop.
Full of Spring Stuff (and a bunch of other hoarded curated goods)
And though there is a $15 spending limit
If I already have it on hand, then any of those additions don't count towards the limit.
Right?

Don't you love how people interpret rules now a days?

I digress.
Get yourself over to OneHouse|One Couple and sign up today!
Who's in?

My Green Thumb

I've half heartedly started some seeds this year.
More on that in another post.

Thankfully,
some of the other plants around the place,
are hanging in there

Especially when I decide to remember to water my house plants.
What is the best way to remember to water your house plants?

Easy.
Watch the brown leaves fall off
and remind yourself to stop being such a crevil plant killer.
(Crevil = crazy + evil; btw - the WORST kind of plant killer).

Orchids, gorgeous as they are, are really not that high maintenance.
Throw a couple of ice cubs on the soil
once a week
and you've just figured out the
Easiest and Simplest Way to keep an Orchid alive for months on end.
Or, more simply.
You've learned how to minimally care for an orchid.

Never mind that I killed the baby orchid in my bathroom.
I'm still sentimentally sad about that.

All things considered,
I got not only two dozen rozes,
but also this gorgeous orchid for Valentine's Day.
The roses were...
"suspect"
(in his words which were a little stronger than that)

I'm just happy to be married to a super thoughtful guy
who might or might not have pre-ordered me the new iPad.
Maybe.
As a "thanks for being my baby's mama...oh wait, we don't have any babies"
gift.

Love. Him.
Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Consider this my green!

Recipes Files | Best Flexitarian Super BLT Ever

O.K.
I eat.
A lot, actually.
Well, now, I'm going to do NutriSystem
to be the good support wife.

I'm bitter about that.
SO here are my recipe files of all the things
I'm gorging myself with
until my non-select Vegetarian meals arrive.

Not bitter about that either.

Without further ado:
Should you not be offended by lots of these

Then read on.
And don't you DARE judge
my crumby black countertops
and filthy toaster.
Or the fact that this sometimes vegetarian
indulges in bacon.

Don't. You. Judge. Me.

Here we go!

You will need this

mushrooms | avocado | tomato | bacon | lettuce | bread |
SPICY brown mustard | Extra Hot Horseradish

Even though I am a sista,
yes, I do eat Mayo.

And if you use this bread, I promise you will not get fat.
Well, yes you will.
But it is worth it.

Cut all your veggies and fungi | Slap your bread in the toaster

Sizzle that bacon

Save the grease | toss your mushrooms in to suck it all up

It is imperative that you use your cute West Elm Owl Measuring cups
to mix an ample amount of Spicy Brown Mustard and Extra Hot Horseradish

Assemble in this order:
mayo on bread | lettuce on one side, tomato on the other
avocado on top of lettuce | kick it up spicy sauce smothered on tomato
bacon on top of avocado | mushrooms on top of bacon
Trust me on this.
If you only have your glued down tomato on one side,
it is much easier to assemble this.

For the non-readers:

Now comes the smash up

which results in this dreaming goodness

Between the secret spice bomb sauce,
the honey sweet bread,
the smokey mushrooms
and the creamy avocado
I'm not sure exactly where I entered heaven.

It's not for everyone.
Only the brave.
Flexitarians unite!

Recently Found | Desk

It's been a while since I've done some recently found posts.
So just keep in mind
that "recent"
is relevant.

For the longest time,
I wanted another painting.

Didn't have to be by anyone famous.
Just had to have some texture and brush strokes to it.
My local Goodwills are really great places to find stuff like this.

Above the door in my Master Bedroom,
we have this $12 find from the Burien Goodwill.

And now, above the media hutch,
I have this $6.99 Goodwill Seattle (as in ID, Seattle) find

Love them both to pieces.

As for that desk?

Clearly
I'm not quite ready
to blog about that.

Can't beat the price though

Half off blue tags at that.
What have you found lately?

Things That Take Me to My Happy Place | Listable Life

Nicole over at Moments That Define Life
has a great Listable Life meme.

I am a generally (okay, mostly) happy person.
I tend to be the glass is half full,
sickeningly happy in her own little world
chick in the corner just taking it all in in stride.

At work, in the various community orgs I'm in and just randomly,
people ask me what I "do."

While I know they are often talking about my job,
you know, the one that pays the bills.
But a few people have a secret glimpse into this life and as such,
they are really asking what REALLY makes me tick.

Here's a unique take on what makes me happy
as told via Scrap Art.

I did a post
in this same style.

Check it out and be sure to pop back over here.
I'll wait (smile).

Welcome back.

So here we go:
10 Things That Take Me to my Happy Place

We all know I have a weakness for beauty queens.
Especially if they are under 6 years of age.
Toddlers & Tiaras takes me to my happy place.

I'm a Sagitarian.
Which means, by default, I am lucky.
Almost always lucking into awesome opportunities
takes me to my happy place.

Hiking Mount Rainier.
Hanging out with two of my fave dudes in the world.
A summer day in the Pacific Northwest
takes me to my happy place.

The ONLY place I spend more time online
is Pinterest.
But twitter takes me to my happy place.

You should click through and see this one up close.
Letting go of the negative
and getting to the positive
takes me to my happy place.

That first blush of love
when you first realize that the one you are infatuated with,
loves you even more?
Just recalling that moment takes me to my happy place .

Getting in the car
going with purpose
and creating new traditions
takes me to my  happy place.

Going international.
THAT takes me to my happy place.

Watching him with her.
He's such a dog person.
I love his devotion.
Watching it and benefiting from it
takes me to my happy place.

Going to the market.
Super market. Farmers Market. Mall.
Truly.
I love to shop (smile).
Shopping takes me to my happy place.
Paying the bill off takes me sky high.
