Pottery Barn Deal of the Day: Wine Stoppers (Bonus Discount Code)

This one was just too good to keep all to myself

I've had my eye on the elephant, mini frame and stag wine stoppers
ever since I got my winter Pottery Barn catalog.

Regularly 16.50
I got it for 8.50
 48% off

Regularly  19.50
 I got it for 8.50
56% off

Regularly 14.50
I got it for 8.50
41% off

They are the Pottery Barn deal of the day (December 6).
You can get them online or get them at your local store.
Online, they are free shipping.

If you use discount code
QTHV-WQRX-DSGG

today
(code good through December 7)
then you get an additional 15% off.
Yes, even off of other promotions and sale items.

I LOVE when PB has real sales.
And clearance.
Cause they do it right.

While I was going to practice restraint
and just buy the stag at 14.50 regular price,
I ended up getting all three for 27.69 shipped to my door.

There are some lucky hostesses in my life.
Let me tell you.

And yes, thanks for all the birthday wishes!

Stylin' Master Bath Shelf

So a while ago,
(I know, I know)
I actually
FINISHED
a project.

It was the 1 hour bathroom shelf.
Remember?

On the next to bottom shelf?
You remember my mini succulent garden post right?

Well...

Let's just say that I almost fired my housekeeper
(yes, I have a housekeeper, yes she is afraid of my dog).

Not merely because I came home one Monday afternoon
to find that mini garden in smithereens in the toilet room
stomped on as if someone had to dance to save
their little tootsies (or paws, I suppose)
from the gunshots dancing off the ground around them.

(she only comes 2 times a month
for about an 1 hr...
really, it's about toilets.
You know my thing about toilets)

No, this was about how I jumped to embarrassing conclusions
about how since she doesn't like Ashers
she MUST have locked her in that tiny toilet room
while she did her job
and FORGOT MY DOG
in said tiny room
for about 5 hours

Never mind that the one with no thumbs
is dumb clever enough
to get her skinny self behind the door
accidently shut it
and then squeal and scream for hours on end
when she can't get out

And of course tear up a year's worth of
costco toilet paper
and my mini succulent garden
while she's in there.

let's not talk about the toilet paper holder
that she ripped off the wall
in her wild fit of rage
over the indignity of being locked in the
toilet room all day long.

She's a fighter.  I would have passed out.

Anyhow.
I finally got around to re-styling that shelf.

With a little inspiration from the Pac Gal Auction House
where I saw this little cutie

I decided to actually stop hoarding
my sea shell collection
and actully display some of it

I hate the photography lighting in this dark corner of my house
There's a great little window that lets in just enough light
to give a prisoner hope she'll get out some day
And then an overhead light that is...well...sketch.

All said,
All I need on that shelf is a little plant
ie, the one from Crate and Barrel I pasted in there.

Alas, American Express isn't giving me any points to go shopping with
anytime soon.

They are probably still bitter that I went all the way around the world
on their points when I was a cardholder.
Then we jumped on to the next great card deal.

Given that we're one of those rare oddities (or used to be at least)
that annoyed companies by paying the bill in full each month
and jumping to the next great free flight offers when our old card
wouldn't give us anymore goodies.

All said, loving the Thank You Points I get now
(and so are Lowes and Home Depot where we redeem about 95% of said points).

But next time, Pottery Barn card.  I've seen some lovely sea goodies there
that will be on end of season close out soon enough.

Clearly, I have some shelf space to cover.

What do you think?
More wordy posts?
Or back to the short, sweet and simple?

I had a request to write more.
Why the heck not?

Unless you beg me not to of course.

Thankfully Small Thanksgiving - 2010

Ahhh.
The one day of the year
where we are commanded
to be thankful
for all the stuff we have
and people we love
and just general goodness.

I'm thankful
that we don't
have a houseful of people
at Thanksgiving

All the better for me
to cuss my Cowboys out
all day long
with no one hearing the awful words
that spew from my mouth.

Carry on.

Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm truly thankful
that you take time to stop by
and humor my humor
every now and again.

Faux Edison

I'm not brave
not like lots of girls
in home bloggity blog land

I'm not a fan of powertools
or electricity
or using power tools to put up
electrical thingamagigs

Like lighting fixutures
Or, plumbing fixtures for that matter.

Oh, I'll drill up a picture or two.
But the real stuff, I leave to Mr. Handy.

For now.

That said, I loved the look of Pottery Barn's Edison chandelier
And at the top of the landing,
in our home
there is a fixture cap
which I imagine hides the wires for those brave enough
to install their own fixture
because,
evidently
they ran out of fixtures in our home
and didn't think we'd need one more
in that very obvious space

No biggie.

I loved this nook

Reading Room Nook - Top of the Landing, Pinehurst

You can see the light fixture cap in the ceiling of this photo
It would be great to have a real lighting fixture in that space
you know, to read by
But since I live in the land of the sun/not sun
(just depends on the time of year)
I can get by with natural light from the window
Note that I didn't say "sunlight" because,
well, that stuff needs to be bottled when it shows up here

I digress.

I wanted to make a Faux Edison.
So I gathered the following supplies

Faux Edison Parts | Pinehurst Reading Nook

I found the coil of rope at Goodwill (of course)
But then decided that I wanted the rope with the blue label
from Home Depot
I picked up the clear globe bulbs in three different sizes
from the Habitat Store, Wal Mart and Goodwill
(noticing a trend here?)
I got the bag of gray couplings
in the plumbing section at Home Depot
and I picked up the eye screws from Home Depot too.

Score Orange!

The craft paints were picked up in the great
Freecycle paint heist.
Awesomeness.

I used a bit of Gorilla glue
and some washers I had on hand
To glue a washer to one end of the couplings
that I had painted black.

On the non-washer end of the coupling
I glued my light bulb to the coupling
Because, they're not really going to light up and all

The washer on the other end was so that I could take this

and end up with this

Faux Edison All Strung Out| Pinehurst Reading Nook

I used different lengths of rope,
different sized bulbs
and now, I just need to get the guts
to put it on my ceiling

Yeah.  I'll keep you posted on that.
