Curtain Indecision 2011

 You could tell me
that you prefer this set of Ikea KAJSA curtains
on the main floor gigantor windows
slung low and non-functional
in front of the top |down blinds that almost ended my marriage.

Light, flowly, patterned, cheap ($29.99 for the pair).

or
you could tell me you prefer
these horizontal close set striped ones.
That I would have to make.
Out of super heavy material.
That I didn't get enough
and can't get more of
because I'm not patient enough for my 5 followers
to scour their little town Joanne's to find me more
in their home decor fabrics
table of rejects.

I should have known it was too heavy
And I was too cheap to get enough fabric to do it right.
I bought 3 yards
at $7 a yard.

Not bad, except that I don't have curtains out of them.

All to say it wouldn't matter what you told me
because I'm hard headed.
I went back to Ikea
and went something like this

Yes, eagle eyed observers.
I did indeed still use the first set of Ikea curtains.
LOVE where they ended up.
And how they ended up there.

But that's for another time.

The remaining indecision?

Should I stamp/stencil
these  bad boys up?
If yes, with what pattern?

I did cut off the tabs
and open up a slit of the hem on the top of the panel
to slide my rods through.

Tabs, so not my friends.

Then and Now: Living Room Sofa Table

When we first moved in,
we had two of these

So when I first hit the blog DIY world
and saw all the painted furniture
I figured it would be no harm
in painting this ONE white.

Best. Decision. Ever.
If only I could get up the nerve
to paint my coffee table white.

I just love how the white makes all the other natural decor really pop.
And I love having a handy husband, who can build out cubbies
into functional, usable space.

Well, and he built our sound system.
No, not installed a sound system,
he BUILT it.  Yes. Built the speakers from components.
From scratch.

Told you he was handy.

Quick Change: Puppy Toy Holder

I think this puppy toy holding basket

Had seen better days.
So I replaced it

with this more sturdy version
It should last a week

Especially if we don't get her
to the puppy part
on a daily basis
in that week

love
her
to
pieces

yes,
of course,
more than my baskets

Baskets are a dime a dozen
Puppies are priceless
Unless they only eat gourmet,
organic,
homemade
meals

In which case, they are actually
kind of pricey

Well worth it,
nontheless.

Week 15 Random Pinehurst

I have a thing
for pillows
lately

This one had to be repositioned
away from the puppy seat
on the couch

You know
the one
where she sits
on the couch
and naps
while we are at work
and then tries to turn away
when we watch her do it
on the puppy cam
each
night

3,489,746 bulbs later

Last November,
I was miserable

It was about 2 weeks
since I had learned about
our puppy dog Ashley's
terminal kidney condition

We were told it was a matter
of days, not weeks
and certainly not months

I had just stocked up on a ton
and a half
of spring bulbs
which I was looking forward
to planting
with my digger, garden-loving puppy

For weeks, I could not bring myself
to go out into my yard
I would look out there
I would see the garden
I would see her running excitedly through it
and I would
just
break
down

Finally, really way too late in November
I went out
with a huge tub of bulbs
and I planted Ashley's garden

I cried with every bulb I placed
She would help me dig them back up
(smile)
and I would refuse to get frustrated
just so sad that she wouldn't be around
to actually see things bloom
and grow
in our garden

it crushed my soul
I honestly thought I wasn't
going to be able to garden
this year

Melodramatic much?
She was my first puppy.
ever.
I vowed she would be my last.

what feels like 3,489,746 bulbs later
and maybe at least 78 inches of snow
and 932 days passed when spring should have sprung

I harvested these

From here

With help from her

Thank you Lord
for the beauty of this life
you gift me with everyday

Week 3 Random Pinehurst

I really miss
having a tiny
puppy dog
in my lap

You know
the little cutie that
had puppy teeth
that could gnaw at those
puppy toys
rather than MAUL
the basket they were held in.

Week 1 Random Pinehurst

Can't say I'm not jealous.

Best. Christmas. Gift. Ever.
So happy she is still here.

On the main floor...well, we'll just skip Christmas

Imagine
If you will

a beautiful tree
that was hunted
and fought for
and brought down
from the greatest tree farm
on
this
earth.

it is trimmed
all aglow with lights
done up with
trinkets and doodads
magnificently
in red, white and silver

it is full
it is tall
it is gorgeous
with trimmings just right

then
you go to work
and you come home
and you see this

(!!!!)

and you almost
al.most.
strangle your dog

before you look a little closer

and you realize
that only a really cruel
dog mommy
would decorate a tree
with shiny white
dog bone ornaments

And you peel off
into fits of uncontrollable laughter
because your puppy mutt
is chewing on a print
of this photo

as if to say
"Payback is a bitch"

Although, not really
because she's a sweetie
and she would never use
words like that

So.
We'll just skip Christmas
on the main floor
this year

Score 1 for the Puppy Mutt.

Around Pinehurst - December (Empty)

Last year
my side joined us in Seattle
for a very PNW Christmas celebration
complete with Christmas morinng hike
and stockings hung by the chimney with care

Why yes, Timmy.
If you misbehave all year long
throw a hissy fit
act ungrateful
or do none of the above
but have a prangsta
(yes, with an "a" not an "er")
for a spouse

Then you too may end up with nothing
but two lumps of coal in your stocking.

I was going to do it to my nephew
but Lord knows that child has had
more than enough trauma in his life

R's real stocking goods were in the pantry
it was hell and high hopes trying to
keep him out of there
and away from Santa's cookies.

Happy December!
