Welcome In | Entry Progress

More and more, 
this place is looking lived in.
Not that we really use this front door.
Except when we have guests over.

And you know how long it took to make this art from b3hd Part 1, how long it took to hang them, and how insanely focused I can be on a project.  You also already saw the clock project.


This entryway is so totally coming along.

Super Sized Runner Idea

I like the runner/rug that I currently have in my entry way.
Problem is,
it is so not appropriate.

Mostly, because it gets ruffled and rouched up
(pretty on a blouse, not on a floor)
when we open the front door.

Or the puppy mutt skids into it while running down her puppy runway.

Really, I need to give up on the runner idea.
But I won't.

I so need a long runner for my entry hallway.
By long, I think 21 feet should do it.
Considering most off the shelf runners come 7 ft long
And cost about $60 - $130 each.
I definitely needed to research a DIY option.


I need to research it again,
but there was a stroke of genius that I came across on the interwebs.

There was a handy/crafty/DIY blogger
who knocked off the above rug.
With a piece of canvas, some rug non-skid and some fabric.
Well...and some adhesive spray and a sewing machine.

Only because there are lots of parts and patience and a sewing machine involved is this probably an expert level project.  For me.

If you're handy with a sewing machine (so not me)
or don't think hand stitching is eye gougingly slow... (again, not me)
then this is probably maybe just advanced for you (budget to buy all that other stuff unless you are THAT freecycle patient).

But if you buy your fabric cheap from somewhere online
and you buy canvas at Jo's with a coupon
and you find a rug skid stop somewhere thrifty...

This could totally be reasonable. 
Especially if you are NOT making a 21 foot runner.
Just saying.
That's a LOT of straight stitching to make happen.

Especially since I now have a sewing machine.
Yes, it is still in the box it came in.

Awesome thought that counts.
Or, I could just go to Ikea already.

I'm sure they've got a solution for this dilemma.

Entry Hallway Rug - Check?

Remember how I was looking for an entry way runner?


Did you find any that I should go buy
so that you could live vicariously through my rug love?

No?
Not even just a little rug
to replace the one you can't see in front of the door
in that picture above?

Hmmm...
What do you think of this?



I like that it is an entry rug (not a runner)
Don't like that it didn't fit the way I wanted it to
but this is starting to grow on me.
To commit or not to commit.
That is the question.

According to my House Beautiful Mag

Promise I bought the rug
for $8
from the Grocery Outlet
(yes, my puppy is loving her non-organic diet nowadays. not)
months ago
before I saw the House Beautiful article.

Once I do another garden post,
you'll have to see what I did
with one of their 100 hardware store finds.

And that I did for the first time
10 years ago, when I was living in NM.

I just need to find some deeper ones.

You'll see.

For now, the rug.

Need List: Entry way rug


I need a rug
for this entry way.
It has become the puppy runway
which means the hardwoods
are nicely aging
in the same way that my dining room table
is "nicely aging"

I like the table
he does not like the table

He likes the puppy runway
I do not like the puppy runway

At the very least
I would like to
replace the rug by the door
(look closer)

But ideally,
I'd love a runner
that could run the whole length
of that hallway

Only problem?
I would need at least 2
extra long runners
(we've got about 20 - 21 linear ft there)
And that gets pricey

Thinking of maybe using some
Flor modular carpet.

What do you think?



As is
I think my housekeeper
is going to quit
once she realizes
a certain puppy
has taken to running
up and down the hall.

The other folks we almost hired
wanted to charge a premium
to clean our hardwoods

Does hell go with no?

Yes, it is pitiful that I have a housecleaner
No, it is not pitiful that I will do what it takes
to save this marriage

We're workaholics
so someone has to do it
and I'm too busy reupholstering chairs
to do it myself

I jest
But really
it was kind of embarrasing
to hire someone just to clean
my toilets

which is all I really wanted
So they clean our main floor
and bedroom

Yes, it is a bit embarrassing to note
that my housecleaner
comes as a "they" (it's quicker that way).

Don't hate the player
hate the game

I hate it too
housecleaners,
gourmet puppy food
and a non-sponsored
DIY blog
means I get to work
attrocious hours
for the man
to come out of pocket

Life's tradeoffs.
you do you
I'll do me

Till I get knocked up
and can justify
being a stay at home mommy
to more than just a dog.

These are the things I struggle with
on the daily.
